Sephora Beauty Insider Birthday Gift: Tarte Makeup Set (VIDEO)

Sephora’s Beauty Insider rewards program is free to join and comes with the awesome perk of receiving a beauty gift during your birthday month. This year, members got to choose between a skincare set by Caudalie and a makeup set by Tarte (there is also a men’s skincare kit, only available online)

I was excited to try out the Tarte makeup kit this year, which includes their 12-hour Amazonian Clay Blush in Paaarty and their Tarteist Lip Paint in Birthday Suit.

Check out my video review and demo of these two products!

Influenster Review Spree #1

A couple weeks ago I was lucky to receive a complimentary box of samples from Influenster, a site that partners brands with consumers to try out and review their products. The samples can range from anything from cosmetics to household cleaning products to food. If you love trying new things and writing reviews, be sure to get signed up!

Throughout this week I will be doing a series of short reviews on the products I received from the Poppy Voxbox, a combination of skincare, makeup, and cleaning products. I had a lot of fun testing this stuff out this week and can’t wait for my next box!

Today I’ll be talking about the Rimmel ScandalEyes Precision Micro Eyeliner in Black. This eyeliner claims waterproof and last “up to 24 hours”. It comes in liquid form with a firm tapered brush applicator. My usual eyeliner is the Maybelline Line Stiletto Precision Liquid Eyeliner and has a very similar applicator that makes it simple to get a fast and clean line. Sample Sunday: NARS Soft Matte Complete Concealer (vs. NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer)

When NARS first announced their Soft Matte Complete Concealer, I was initially only half excited: Excited for the “complete coverage” part, but not so jazzed about the “matte” part. My skin tends to lean on the drier side, so matte products usually make those pesky dry patches emerge out of their hiding place.

But, because I’m a sucker for NARS products, i decided to give this one a try anyway and headed to get some samples.

Much to my surprise, the counter at my local Nordstrom had prepackaged samples ready, with four different shades to boot! Wouldn’t it be great if all samples were like this and you could try out the entire spectrum of colors in the comfort of your own home? VIP Beauty Sale!

Sales on beauty products, specially entire lines of beauty products, are a rare bird in the wild. Over the weekend Macy’s was having a huge sale with a 15% discount on almost all the cosmetics they carried (Chanel was the only exclusion). This sale has now been extended through today (to midnight PST)

Although I shop at Macy’s from time to time, I really am partial to Nordstrom for their convenient free shipping and return policies. Luckily, Nordys is doing price matching for any product they carry included in the Macy’s sale!

I rounded up a list of products that I’ve mentioned on this blog and use regularly. If you were considering any of them, definitely take advantage and get them in this sale:

Some other products that are highly recommended by myself and my friends but I haven’t tried yet/haven’t tried recently:

Sample Sunday: Bobbi Brown Extra Eye Repair Cream

Just a quick post to share about a product I’ve been trying out for the past week. It is the Bobbi Brown Extra Eye Repair Cream and it is ahhhmazing.

The product is a colorless cream that applies smoothly over skin and is thick enough to stay in place for day or night. It has a slight scent that resembles the Rose Face Mask made by Fresh (I say “resemble” because I was convinced it was the “rose” smell, only to find that rose is not listed under the ingredients of this eye cream).  Continue reading “Sample Sunday: Bobbi Brown Extra Eye Repair Cream”

Buxom “License to Chill” $10 Beauty Set

Happy Thanksgiving to my American readers! Hope you all had a great weekend of eating, drinking, being merry, and maybe even doing some shopping.

Regardless of your opinion about our subsequent “holiday” Black Friday, you have to admit that there are some pretty amazing deals to be found, especially for things that never go on sale–like beauty products. Over the weekend I saw markdowns from many major brands (Benefit and Giorgio Armani, to name a couple). However, what I was really looking forward to was snagging some great gift sets from Sephora.

Sephora carries gift sets year round for everything ranging from makeup to skincare to fragrance. These are a great way to save money on the cost of buying all the items individually, but they can still be expensive, many costing over $100. During the holidays, Sephora releases a large variety of gift sets for the $10-$25 range. These usually contain 2-4 items, typically mini versions of retail products.

Last year I picked up a bunch of these sets, both to gift to friends and co-workers, and also for myself to try out new products. The products ranged from things like Tocca fragrances to LivingProof hair products to Smashbox primers. Unfortunately, year after year more and more of the items are in the $15-$25 range. Alas, what is a bargain hunter to do?

Luckily, I was able to score a couple $10 sets this weekend, and I wanted to share one of them with you: the Buxom “License to Chill” 3-piece eye and lip collection.

Sample Sunday: Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer

This week’s Sample Sunday will unfortunately not feature any demos as I am currently in the middle of moving and am unable to film/photograph anything. Instead, I decided to write about a product I tried just a couple months back. Hope to be back up to speed by next week!

Ah, the Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer. The Rolls-Royce of makeup primers–even its packaging exudes luxury. Beauty mavens have raved about this product for years about its unparalleled quality and performance. Naturally, I was curious. However, at $54 a pop, I wasn’t willing to purchase it before trying it out, no matter how many great reviews I heard.

I headed down to my local Sephora to grab a sample. Although I am a purveyor of all free stuff, I especially recommend getting take-home samples for skincare products, as their effects are harder to assess from a single use in the store.

The Sephora associate that assisted me warned me against using too much product at once, as it can actually be detrimental to its priming abilities. Used sparingly, I had enough product to try it out for a solid week, using my normal makeup routine so I could compare directly with my usual primer, the Smashbox Photo Finish Hydrating Primer. Sample Sunday: First Aid Beauty Face Cleanser

Happy Sunday! Today I am trying out a sample of this facial cleanser I received at my last visit to Sephora. First Aid Beauty is a brand I’d heard a lot from friends, but I’ve never tried any of their products before. The product comes in 1oz-8oz containers priced at $5.50-$30 each.

*New Series Alert!* Sample Sunday: Giorgio Armani Fluid Sheer

I was cleaning out my bathroom the other week and had a great idea to start a recurring series where I use and review beauty samples. You know, the ones you get for free and forget about until it’s time to throw them away?

I’m not one to waste a free thing, so Sample Sunday was born to help me use them up and discover great products along the way.

For this inaugural post, I will be reviewing the Giorgio Armani Fluid Sheer Liquid highlighter. I am a big fan of GA’s Luminous Silk Foundation, so I jump at the chance to try any of their products, especially in conjunction with said foundation.
