Anthropologie Tag Sale: Info + Haul

I originally filmed a video to accompany this post but have found it difficult to upload where I am on vacation right now. So here’s a post instead, and perhaps I’ll get the video up sometime later after I get back!

UPDATE: After a handful of attempts, I was able to get the video up and running!

I feel as if, for every person that worships Anthropologie religiously, there’s someone who detests it vehemently. I understand both viewpoints: on one hand, their stuff is beautiful and rather unique: they focus on the statement pieces rather than the basics, and sell things we can’t find in department stores. On the other hand, most of the time it is prohibitively expensive and also represents a culture of commercializing the aesthetic of independent artisans.

What I’ve discovered over the years, however, are a couple things. First, Anthropologie does carry a few brands which can be considered more “commercial” and a source for mass-produced clothing. But, many of the pieces they feature are made by smaller, independent labels. It’s a great way to discover new brands and support their work even after their merchandise leaves Anthropologie.

Second, Anthropologie has sales all the time. It used to be that things only got marked down a little bit, resulting in prices that were still unpalatably high. However, in recent years this has been changing. It is now not just possible, but feasible, to buy great stuff at a huge discount.

Anthropologie’s Tag Sale is a great time to take advantage of their discounts. Tag Sales involve taking an additional discount off already reduced prices. The additional discount ranges from 20%-40%, and sales occur every 1-2 months. The most recent ones have seemed to last for multiple weeks.

For their summer tag sale (which is still going on now), the additional discount is 30%. I typically like to shop in store, since it’s easier to find items which are the last of a color/size, which are typically marked down even more because of that. However, this time I was out of town when the sale started so I shopped it online instead. There was still a ton of great stuff at a huge discount, and I was very happy with what I ended up getting.

The current Tag Sale is still going on with tons of great stuff, especially things summer items that can be worn right away! Although most of the things in my haul are now out of stock, my intent in showing you my haul is to demonstrate the kind of things that you can get at very deep discounts.

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2017 Early Access Round-up

The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is meant to be treated like a marathon, not a sprint. If you try to race through it like Black Friday, chances are you’ll end up tired, dehydrated, crampy, and cranky.

That said, I wanted to shared what I’ve bought so far as a means to help you focus in on the good stuff if you’re feeling overwhelmed by the literally thousands of items that are in this sale. I did my shopping in a couple rounds, online first, then in person with my mom in tow. I’ll definitely be able to comment much more on the stuff I saw in store, but I’ll try to be as comprehensive as I can.

The catalog for this year’s sale is out, giving us a preview of a selection of products that will be part of the sale. I’ve gone through and pulled out some of my top picks to share with you and show you just why I’m so excited for this sale…which starts in less than a week for cardholders!

Sometimes I feel like I could’ve lived in Victorian times because of how much I love a good puffed sleeve. I’m like Anne of Green Gables in that way.

VIP Beauty Sale!

Sales on beauty products, specially entire lines of beauty products, are a rare bird in the wild. Over the weekend Macy’s was having a huge sale with a 15% discount on almost all the cosmetics they carried (Chanel was the only exclusion). This sale has now been extended through today (to midnight PST)

Although I shop at Macy’s from time to time, I really am partial to Nordstrom for their convenient free shipping and return policies. Luckily, Nordys is doing price matching for any product they carry included in the Macy’s sale!

I rounded up a list of products that I’ve mentioned on this blog and use regularly. If you were considering any of them, definitely take advantage and get them in this sale:

Some other products that are highly recommended by myself and my friends but I haven’t tried yet/haven’t tried recently:

DEAL ALERT: Girlfriend Collective Leggings (Video + Try-on!)

UPDATE: Girlfriend Collective has officially ended their giveaway campaign as of 2/4/17. However, they will be launching their full line in the next few months, so stay tuned for more awesome and ethical athletic wear!!!

Free things are the heart language of any student. So when I saw this Facebook ad for free leggings, I was naturally curious.

Girlfriend Collective is a Seattle-based company started by couple Ellie and Quang Ding, who collectively have experience in both fashion design and fashion business. Mr. and Mrs. Dinh set out to create eco-friendly and ethically-made activewear that would be comparable in quality to high-end athletic brands without the high price tag. To kickstart the brand, they are offering a promotion for their first product, a pair of full-length black leggings.

Among their claims include:

  • The fabric used in these leggings is made from recycled water bottles. Along with being environmentally friendly, this method gives the fabric a smooth feel and makes it hardier against shearing and piling.
  • The leggings are manufactured in Hanoi, Vietnam, in a factory that pays fair wages.
  • The cut has been meticulously designed to flatter many body types
  • Rather than spend tons of money on marketing and advertising, they have instead elected to give away the leggings for free, hoping to gain customer loyalty and word-of-mouth advertising in doing so.

But, as most people knows that there’s no such thing as a free lunch. So what’s the catch?

For this promotion, the leggings are being shipped directly from the Hanoi factory. In exchange for the leggings, the company asks that you pay the shipping fee to wherever you are. In the US, this ends up being around $20. They also ask that you help spread the word: tell your friends and family, post on social media, write blogs (ok so that part wasn’t specifically mentioned, but here I am doing my duty anyway :D)

Due to the understandably high demand for anything free, there is a wait to receive these, averaging about a couple months. By the time I received mine in the mail I’d almost forgotten about them.

I filmed a short first impressions video to show it all off (skip to 3:08 for the try-on portion):

Buxom “License to Chill” $10 Beauty Set

Happy Thanksgiving to my American readers! Hope you all had a great weekend of eating, drinking, being merry, and maybe even doing some shopping.

Regardless of your opinion about our subsequent “holiday” Black Friday, you have to admit that there are some pretty amazing deals to be found, especially for things that never go on sale–like beauty products. Over the weekend I saw markdowns from many major brands (Benefit and Giorgio Armani, to name a couple). However, what I was really looking forward to was snagging some great gift sets from Sephora.

Sephora carries gift sets year round for everything ranging from makeup to skincare to fragrance. These are a great way to save money on the cost of buying all the items individually, but they can still be expensive, many costing over $100. During the holidays, Sephora releases a large variety of gift sets for the $10-$25 range. These usually contain 2-4 items, typically mini versions of retail products.

Last year I picked up a bunch of these sets, both to gift to friends and co-workers, and also for myself to try out new products. The products ranged from things like Tocca fragrances to LivingProof hair products to Smashbox primers. Unfortunately, year after year more and more of the items are in the $15-$25 range. Alas, what is a bargain hunter to do?

Luckily, I was able to score a couple $10 sets this weekend, and I wanted to share one of them with you: the Buxom “License to Chill” 3-piece eye and lip collection.

Weekend Haul: Tax-Free Shopping! (VIDEO)

Hey my beautiful people of the internet! Thanks for sticking with me through my sporadic posting. Med school is no joke but, as with anything in life, one must make time for the things that they love. For me, that includes shopping and blogging.

I recently had a day off to take a short trip with some friends. I live somewhere where we pay loads of sales tax. When I travel to places with no sales tax on clothing, I like to take advantage. It feels like getting deals upon deals!

We hit up a few stores throughout the trip and I got really excited to show you my finds. Hope you enjoy this haul video!

ModCloth Stylish Surprise Unboxing and Try-On!

For more info about Stylish Surprise, check out this post!

Let’s celebrate getting to the end of the week by doing one of my favorite activities: trying on new clothes!

The items: (I wasn’t able to find the stylish surprise items on Modcloth’s website, but here’s at least the non-surprise items)

  1. Chef Executive Officer Top
  2. Pointelle the Way Cardigan in Ash

I think I had a pretty successful haul this time around, but what do you guys think?

ModCloth Stylish Surprise!

Just a quick post this morning to inform everyone of Modcloth’s Stylish Surprise sale! A few times a year, Modcloth will offer several categories of surprise items at a greatly discounted price. All you do is choose the category and size!

Dresses go for $20, Apparel (can be coats, tops, or bottoms) go to $15, and shoes go for $10. There was also a home/apartment category that I missed out on (it was sold out within minutes of the sale launch!). Sometimes, there is also an accessory category, although I didn’t see that this time. Be aware that all sales are final. If something doesn’t work out for you, you may consider selling it to other users or giving it to a friend!

This time around I ordered two apparel items and one pair of shoes. When the shipment comes, I’ll do an unboxing to show you what I got!
