Wow, we’ve reached the final item in this Influenster Poppy Voxbox, and the end of a whole week of reviews! It’s been really fun getting to share these products with you and although medical school keeps me busy year round, I hope to continue writing and reviewing in the months to come.
As we get to the home stretch of this review spree, we also arrive at the home stretch of this week. Weekends in medical school are less like weekends and more like cram sessions for Monday exams. However, I like to allow myself some TLC on Friday nights before diving headfirst into the books. Continue reading “Influenster Review Spree #6”
It’s designed to be applied after using and rinsing off your normal bath soap, and then it says to also rinse off the lotion. Seems quite counterintuitive if you ask me. Continue reading “Influenster Review Spree #4”
One of the products I was most excited about trying from my complimentary Influenster Poppy Voxbox was the Nyakio Kenyan Coffee Face Polish. Newcomer Nyakio (pronounced Neh-KAY-oh, as is cleverly incorporated into the logo) is the brainchild of Nyakio Kamoche Grieco, who draws inspiration from her Kenyan heritage to create her products. The line launched just this past March, and is exclusively available at Ulta.
I can honestly say I have never used a coffee bean scrub in my life, and at this point am excitedly thinking about homemade dupes — if this works, could i somehow replicate this with stuff found around the house? Continue reading “Influenster Review Spree #3”
Happy Monday! Today I wanted to share with you the next item from my complimentary Influenster VoxBox, the Eva NYC Freshen Up Dry Shampoo. Eva NYC is a haircare brand started in Brooklyn in 2012. In addition to soaps and styling products, they sell a line of beautifully designed styling tools. I had actually heard of it only a couple months ago when I started seeing their products pop up in my local Costco store (that’s when you know you’ve made it to the big leagues!)
I have tried a fair amount of dry shampoos but always seem to run into the same problems:
- White/chalky residue (especially annoying on my dark hair)
- Sticky residue
- Doesn’t make hair less greasy (in other words, it doesn’t actually do what it’s supposed to do)
Whenever I try a new dry shampoo I hold out hope that this will be my magic answer to everything. Let’s see how it did! Continue reading “Influenster Review Spree #2”
A couple weeks ago I was lucky to receive a complimentary box of samples from Influenster, a site that partners brands with consumers to try out and review their products. The samples can range from anything from cosmetics to household cleaning products to food. If you love trying new things and writing reviews, be sure to get signed up!
Throughout this week I will be doing a series of short reviews on the products I received from the Poppy Voxbox, a combination of skincare, makeup, and cleaning products. I had a lot of fun testing this stuff out this week and can’t wait for my next box!
Today I’ll be talking about the Rimmel ScandalEyes Precision Micro Eyeliner in Black. This eyeliner claims waterproof and last “up to 24 hours”. It comes in liquid form with a firm tapered brush applicator. My usual eyeliner is the Maybelline Line Stiletto Precision Liquid Eyeliner and has a very similar applicator that makes it simple to get a fast and clean line. When NARS first announced their Soft Matte Complete Concealer, I was initially only half excited: Excited for the “complete coverage” part, but not so jazzed about the “matte” part. My skin tends to lean on the drier side, so matte products usually make those pesky dry patches emerge out of their hiding place.
But, because I’m a sucker for NARS products, i decided to give this one a try anyway and headed to get some samples.
Much to my surprise, the counter at my local Nordstrom had prepackaged samples ready, with four different shades to boot! Wouldn’t it be great if all samples were like this and you could try out the entire spectrum of colors in the comfort of your own home? Sales on beauty products, specially entire lines of beauty products, are a rare bird in the wild. Over the weekend Macy’s was having a huge sale with a 15% discount on almost all the cosmetics they carried (Chanel was the only exclusion). This sale has now been extended through today (to midnight PST)
Although I shop at Macy’s from time to time, I really am partial to Nordstrom for their convenient free shipping and return policies. Luckily, Nordys is doing price matching for any product they carry included in the Macy’s sale!
I rounded up a list of products that I’ve mentioned on this blog and use regularly. If you were considering any of them, definitely take advantage and get them in this sale:
- Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade (My Review)
- Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Gel (My Review)
- Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer
- Bobbi Brown Bronzing Powder
- Clinique Cheek Pop Blush
- Urban Decay All-Nighter Setting Spray: Now with improved spray bottle design!
- beautyblender Makeup Sponge (My Review)
- Estee Lauder Advanced Repair Eye II
- philosophy Microdelivery Detoxifying Oxygen Peel (My Review)
- Origins Checks and Balances Frothy Face Wash: Used with Foreo Luna Mini
- Foreo Luna Mini (My Review)
Some other products that are highly recommended by myself and my friends but I haven’t tried yet/haven’t tried recently:
- Urban Decay Naked Eyeshadow Palettes
- Dior Diorshow Mascara
- Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick
- MAC Prep + Prime Fix+
- Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion+
- Laura Mercier Radiant Foundation Primer
Philosophy may be in a contest with themselves to have the longest product names ever (Purity Made Simple Facial Cleansing Gel & Eye Makeup Remover, Renewed Hope in a Jar Overnight Recharging & Refining Moisturizer, etc, etc). Combined with their package design that incorporates usage instructions and inspirational sayings, there’s just a lot of reading involved when it comes to this brand.
But I digress.
The product I will be reviewing today is the Philosophy Microdelivery Detoxifying Oxygen Peel. From doing a little research it looks like this is relatively new product, having launched just about a year ago. Continue reading “Review + Demo: Philosophy Microdelivery Detoxifying Oxygen Peel”
